Lessons

I teach beginners to pre-professional students starting as early as age 4. My philosophy is to instill the love of music in all of my students, but through a solid foundation of musical, artistic, and technical skills. Regardless of age or professional aspirations, my teaching stresses the importance of hard work, discipline, and time management, alongside an appreciation for all aspects of music and the fine arts.

LOCATION
All lessons are taught out of my home in Park Ridge, IL.

SCHEDULING
It is expected that students will have one weekly lesson during the academic school year with the exception of major national holidays. When scheduling lessons, please consider other commitments such as sports and daily habits such as nap times (for younger students), as it will be difficult to reschedule lesson times once the year gets started. Lessons can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes long depending on the student's age and level.

MAKE-UP LESSONS
Prior to each month, you will receive an outline of confirmed lesson dates and the amount due. Any foreseeable conflicts must be rescheduled at this time. Only 1 make-up lesson per "semester" (Sept - Dec, Jan - May, June - Aug) will be allowed. This includes make-ups for cancellations, illness, or other reasons. No-shows will not be made up. If for any reason I need to miss or reschedule a lesson, it will be made up at a mutually agreed upon time.

LESSON RATES AND PAYMENT
Please contact me for current rates.
Payment will be paid a month in advance and is due by the first lesson of that month.

PERFORMANCES & GROUP CLASSES
There will be at least 1 (although typically 2) recitals throughout the year where all students will be expected to perform. I also hold occasional group/performance classes for students based on level to work on ensemble skills, technique, and best performance practices.

MATERIALS NEEDED
  • Violin (if you have a beginner, please do not rent or purchase an instrument before your trial lesson)
  • Notebook, for weekly assignments and notes
  • Folder or 3-ring binder to organize extra materials
  • Music stand for practice at home
  • Books and other practice aides, such as a metronome
I will advise you as to what materials your child will need as they progress. This may also include digital downloads of music for assigned (and for pure enjoyment) listening.
