Studio Policies

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
  • Respect: please remember to respect yourself, your teacher, your instrument, your music, and your learning space. I will not allow disruptive or rude behavior.
  • Keep a positive attitude.
  • Be open to trying and seeing new things. Sometimes, you learn the best when you step outside of the practice room and your comfort zone (i.e. sing, dance, draw, visit a museum)
  • Practice! Daily practice makes your lessons and your learning more enjoyable. My biggest motto is "quality, not quantity" however, on average, I will expect the following:
    • Beginners (depending on age): 20 - 30 min each day
    • Intermediate: at least 45 - 60 min each day
    • Advanced: at least 90 min each day
  • Practicing can come in many forms, including assigned listening and theory homework. For many students, I will use practice charts to help organize their time to stay productive and efficient.
  • Perform! There will be at least one studio recital (typically in late April/early May), and all students are required to perform.

PARENT EXPECTATIONS
  • Parent involvement is key to a child's success. Depending on your child's age and level, this may take several forms, but we will discuss this at our first meeting and adjust them as your child progresses and matures.
  • I have an open door policy and parents are always welcome to stay during the lessons. For beginners, this will be a requirement. I am also available throughout the week to answer any questions you or your child may have.
  • Please make sure I have a reliable email address where I can reach you, and a phone number where I can reach you or someone in your family in case of an emergency. If your child has any special needs or medical conditions I need to be aware of, please let me know.
